1. A Confession from the Deck
I have a confession: I’m not a sailor. In fact, I’ve only sailed once.
6 years ago, off the coast of Malindi in Kenya, I set sail for the first (and only) time. My little expedition only took me a kilometre out into the Indian Ocean and back. It wasn’t a grand adventure, but it had all the excitement of one: choppy waters, gusty winds, and a sense of wonder.
I didn’t think much of that experience for years, until my spiritual practice deepened. That’s when I realised my brief sailing trip was more than just a memory; it was a metaphor for what it means to navigate a good life.
2. Life as an Ocean
In life, the wind represents your emotions, thoughts, dreams and desires. You can’t control the wind, but you can adjust your sails to work with it.
